Building got cheap. Judgement stayed scarce.
For decades, building software was the expensive part – so every method was built around saving build time. AI has turned that around: building has become fast and cheap, but fallible. What is scarce now is judgement – what should be built and whether it is any good. That is exactly what we have rebuilt our way of working around.
Building is no longer
the bottleneck.
So we move the work to where it still counts: to deciding, to checking, to the concept. The speed that falls out of it is a consequence – not the goal.
- Everything by hand – every hour costs
- Documentation gets written at the end (maybe)
- Knowledge sits in individual heads
- Quality varies with the day
- Big concept up front, then a long build
- AI helps build – humans check
- Documentation appears automatically as we build
- Knowledge captured & handed over systematically
- Consistent quality through AI reviews
- Short loops: build, show, decide
What AI-first means for you
Four things change for you concretely – here is what they are.
Features in a fraction of the usual time – you go into operation earlier.
Higher productivity means: more finished functionality in the same time.
Every solution comes with documentation you can read – no knowledge gets lost.
Source code, documentation and system are ready to hand over – your team carries on immediately.
We recalculated Agile
For more than twenty years, Agile was the right answer to a world in which building was expensive: short sprints, estimate the effort, little documentation. When the cost structure shifts, the mechanisms have to shift with it – the values behind them stay. Our way of working has a name for that: Convergence.
The two-week sprint was never a law of nature, it was a compromise: replanning cost a room full of people, so you iterated rarely. When building costs minutes, the natural unit gets smaller – a single decision. We build something that answers one question, and we decide. As often as questions come up.
The old rule was: build only what is necessary – every hour was scarce. Today the fastest route to a good decision is often to build two or three variants and look at them, rather than talking them to death on paper. A discarded variant is not waste, it is the price of learning – and that price has come down.
AI code is cheap, often excellent – and sometimes confidently wrong. That is why checking is not a final phase for us but the backbone: tests, clicking through it, the judgement of an experienced engineer. Anything the AI builds counts as a claim until it has been checked. And nothing goes live without a human signing it off.
Documentation used to go stale faster than it paid off. Today the AI records the why as it goes – and reads it back itself, to build faster and more accurately next time. No knowledge is stuck in individual heads any more; at handover you get all of it.
